About Me

I'm Brayden Herrell, a Network Engineer and Infrastructure Specialist based in Moscow Mills, Missouri. With years of hands-on experience in enterprise networking, data center operations, and security infrastructure, I specialize in building networks that are reliable, secure, and built to scale.

My Background

My career in IT and networking has taken me through diverse environments—from managing hosting infrastructure and operating multiple data centers to providing escalation-level support for managed service providers. I've worked with everything from small business networks to complex multi-site enterprise deployments.

Most recently, I served as a Senior Network Engineer at Essential Network Technologies, where I handled escalated network issues, designed firewall policies, configured SD-WAN deployments, and worked extensively with BGP, OSPF, and advanced routing protocols. I managed the internal network infrastructure and led large-scale network buildouts for clients.

Technical Philosophy

I believe that great network infrastructure is invisible—it just works. My approach centers on designing systems with redundancy, security, and scalability in mind from day one. Whether it's implementing BGP failover for carrier diversity, hardening firewall policies with strict segmentation, or architecting high-availability data center networks, I focus on solutions that minimize downtime and maximize performance.

I'm passionate about documentation and clarity. Complex networks need clear diagrams, well-organized configurations, and thorough runbooks. I take pride in leaving systems better than I found them—not just in functionality, but in maintainability.

Experience & Expertise

Throughout my career, I've gained deep expertise in:

  • Designing and deploying multi-site BGP networks with automatic failover
  • Managing data center infrastructure across 10+ facilities
  • Implementing enterprise firewalls and security policies (Fortinet, Cisco)
  • Configuring SD-WAN deployments for distributed organizations
  • Building high-availability network topologies with redundancy at every layer
  • Troubleshooting complex routing, switching, and connectivity issues
  • Working with MSPs and hosting providers to deliver reliable client networks

Previous Ventures

As President of Valor Holdings LLC, I managed hosting infrastructure for nearly 750 clients. This included overseeing multiple colocation facilities, deploying network equipment and virtualization hosts, managing vendor relationships, and leading engineering teams. I was responsible for BGP peering, routing hardware, and ensuring the scalability and security of our entire infrastructure.

Before that, I worked as a Security Operations Analyst at Oracle Cerner, where I maintained security compliance for a DoD top-secret classified data center facility, handling both physical security and monitoring critical infrastructure systems.

Education & Continuous Learning

I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Network Engineering & Security at Western Governors University. I previously completed coursework toward an Associate of Science in Cybersecurity at Southern New Hampshire University before transferring to WGU.

I'm a strong believer in continuous learning. Technology evolves rapidly, and I stay current by working with emerging technologies, studying vendor documentation, and applying new concepts directly to production infrastructure.

I'm always interested in connecting with other network engineers, discussing infrastructure challenges, and exploring new opportunities. Feel free to reach out.
